Smart Fill GEN 3 has automated the whole process. It orders fuel to our inventory, it records fuel usage to the job and it tracks the equipments’ fuel use onsite, including hire equipment. This system saves a lot of man hours, and with fuel prices in the current economy, it’s good to know we can monitor and account for every single drop.

Wilmar Sugar operates eight sugar mills in North Queensland, in the Herbert, Burdekin and Mackay regions. During 2022 The Smart Fill Gen III system was implemented across all of these mills. There are almost 400 vehicles operating on the diesel fuel management system and more than 200 of these utilising the Smart Tag and AVID nozzle reader function. Smart Tag has been implemented on vehicles that are operational at a specific mill, as this system provides the most efficient way for vehicle refuelling. Vehicles fitted with the Smart Tag can refuel simply by inserting the nozzle reader and the system will identify the vehicle and activate the pump. The Smart Tag confirms the vehicle information and captures all of the required usage data at the same time. For other vehicles, mainly locomotives and associated contractor or hire equipment, the key FOB access is utilised. While the use of the FOB also facilitates the data capture, adding the requirement for a driver ID number to be entered as a second level of authorisation helps to increase the level of security for the transaction. For the locos, in particular, this is also a part of a safety system to prevent the loco from being moved during refuelling. Diesel usage during the crushing season is very high and the FMS provides a lot more confidence in respect to diesel stock visibility, supplier deliveries, and an increased confidence in where diesel is being consumed.
